Measure the inside diameter of the spring. The example above has an 1 3/4" inside diameter (I.D.)

Measure 10 coils to the nearest 1/16". Change the fraction into a decimal and divide by 10; that will be the wire size. For a more accurate measure, start at the 1" mark on the ruler.
